In the wake of the financial crisis, risk management in banks has come under increasing scrutiny from the supervisory authorities. Accordingly, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Basel put together a package of regulations that brought together the new requirements under the name Basel III, also referred to as Basel IV by market practitioners. For capital markets business and treasury services, new regulations governing market risk in the trading book (FRTB), counterparty risk (SA-CCR), CVA risk, and interest rate risk in the banking book (IRRBB) are particularly relevant. Further national regulatory requirements also needs to be considered.
In addition, the market currently finds itself in a state of flux. Although the availability of new technology and digital transformation is giving rise to new opportunities, market practices are changing as exemplified by the introduction of a new system for reference interest rates (IBOR transition).
As a consequence of these changes, we are seeing wholesale adjustments to control and valuation processes, and even possibly to capital markets business models.
It is our aim to harmonise the compulsory banking regulations with your business operations. For us, this entails identifying and acting upon the opportunities provided by this new reality and mitigating any risks and drawbacks the regime might bring with it. To this end, we analyse the implications of the regulatory requirements for your operations and – using a wealth of specialist know-how and industry expertise – draw up a plan of action to optimally reshape your process landscape.
